Tweet Rationing is a thing now - 10/09/2025 Blog Entry

Welcome to a new blog! This was completely unexpected.
Today, I spent a lot of my day promoting my brand new and first article post, The Rice of Babel: The Hardships of Linux Theming.
Well, something crazy happened. I got a notification from Touhou Wiki's Discord server, weird. I checked the ping and I saw a post talking about one of the worst case scenarios becoming a reality.
First, do you remember that Google used to have an informal motto? Don't be evil. Well, what Google apparently just did to Touhou Wiki IS EVIL.
I will quote what the Touhou Wiki admins wrote:

Hey @everyone; I wanted to inform you all about the situation re: Google searches.
A couple weeks ago the site started getting hammered heavily by the Google web crawler bot. Enabling Cloudflare verification for the US mitigated the issue, but then the site started dropping off Google search results.
Currently we have the site and Cloudflare configured to deal with bots in two main ways. For legitimate web crawlers (bots trawling across the Internet for search engines), the site generates index files to help assist those bots in figuring out the site's overall structure, to help them see everything on the site without getting stuck in dead-ends. For bots trying to scrape the site for AI purposes, we're using Cloudflare's AI mitigation and labyrinth functions, so those should not be an issue.
The problem this time is the possibility that the Google web crawler is now being used to scrape websites' content for AI purposes, even while being advertized to not do so. This is a really new problem and not something I or the wiki can resolve, unless someone like Cloudflare challenges Google over it.
THE SITE IS NOT DOWN; Google is essentially DDoSing the site with AI content scraping under the guise of legit web crawler activity. And of course the Google search results are suffering from it.
Knowing to access the site versus Fandom will be old hat for anyone in the community long enough, but those new to it likely will be relying on Google searches for access to information. If you see anyone new using searches or direcly using Fandom, let them know what to use instead.
I also recommend using the IndieWikiBuddy extension to redirect Fandom wiki links to Touhou Wiki itself.
Thanks for the understanding!

As you can imagine, I disliked these news quite a bit. Therefore, I did what any reasonable person would do, go scream at Twitter and BlueSky so the world can hear my disagreement and to teach Google a lesson!
That is what would have happened if I didn't get hit with this message after I finished cooking my Tweet:

You read that, right? If your Twitter account is not linked to a phone number, your account gets a daily Tweet Ration.
We have to understand that Tweets are a rare resource, rarer than oil! Every Tweet is precious and cherished by everyone, they have to be rationed so we don't run out of Tweets! We are at war and Tweet ration is limited!
Just don't ask Elon Musk about the bot problems in Twitter or how his platform uses images for AI training without being explicit about it or well the rest of problems that Elon is responsible of.

This was most likely implemented to avoid spam from bot accounts. Well, that surely doesn't stop every kind of politician and powerful person out there from getting them, therefore this is rubbish.
Your phone number is more than likely to be linked to your COUNTRY'S ID CARD. This is a privacy violation on par with the recent age verification problems that hit Europe recently, just less obvious.
Twitter is not the only one asking for phone verification, Google does it too. At least in Google's case, that is put in place to avoid the spam of email accounts, not social media. Email is more powerful in the hierarchy of power, even if it's total nonsense, it makes more sense.
Twitter's restriction is just specially lame.

Can we just stop with the dystopia for 5 minutes, please?

Please share this around, Twitter and Google require suffering, now.
